Growing tips
Carbon is an indeterminate variety that needs consistent watering—about 1 to 2 inches per week depending on rainfall and heat. Keep soil evenly moist to prevent splitting and blossom end rot; mulch heavily to regulate moisture. Feed every 2 to 3 weeks with a balanced fertilizer once fruit sets, or use a tomato-specific formula. Stake or cage plants early since they grow tall and vigorous. Watch for early blight (brown spots on lower leaves) by removing affected foliage promptly and improving air circulation; powdery mildew and spider mites can appear in hot, dry conditions, so keep foliage dry and consider sulfur dust if needed.
Harvesting
Carbon matures in about 75 to 80 days and produces medium-sized, dark mahogany fruits with excellent flavor. Harvest when fully colored but still slightly soft to the touch for best taste; they'll continue ripening off the vine if picked at the breaker stage. Pick regularly to encourage continued production. Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight—never refrigerate, as cold damages flavor and texture. Use within a week or two for peak quality.
